S.C.I.P.
As i walked towards the bus-stop in the dark and clear night sky, my mind was thinking only of one thing: the S.C.I.P. orientation. Although yesterday's events are over, they will be etched deeply in my mind...
My first thought when i first heard about the orientation was " Dam! Must i really go? I rather sleep at home...." my thoughts rattled on as i stalked off unhappily, knowing that it was unavoidable. Earlier, I was esctatic upon receiving the news that my interview for applying the S.C.I.P. was successful. However, this set of news seemed to dampen my spirits, as i began to wonder what i could have done instead for the weekend. How wrong I was! The cloud of unhappiness seemed to dissipate upon the start of the programme.Through the icebreakers, i get to know my fellow S.C.I.P. members more closely. Furthermore, i felt rather at ease as a number of temasekians(sec.) were involved in the orientation too. After, getting to know each other, there were 4 games played, namely "Minefield", "Blindfold", "Plank-walking" and "Virus". the names may seem rather ridiculous, but the games had a hidden meaning: That is, to build up on our teamwork, coordination as well as the ability to listen well. Next on the schedule was "mission possible". It was actually better known as the amazing race, whereby the objective was to complete as many staions as possible using the given time limit...Blah blah....sorry for the boring intro., guess u guys already noe how to play. Anyway, we went to Simei, Tampines, Pasir Ris, Expo., Changi and Bedok...COOL huh? Still, it wasn't the destination that matters. Instead, the games held some significance, as it called for more teamwork, leadership, as well as bravery. That's right, bravery. Dancing the "macarina" in front of a busy road, forming a human train, sincerely welcoming tourist from the airport, asking people to put on lipstick for you, as well as many other silly stuff...was part of the courses in the mission. Even though it sounds rather childish at first thought, it involves lots of courage and i believed it had greatly helped to boost my confidence. "Mission Possible" ROCKZ! Lastly was the event "Mission Impossible", the main theme was to organise a formal impromtu dinner for some "VIPs", using limited resourses. That was the finale of the orientaion, yet it was the most challenging of all. I was part of the 'Decorations' group and we had to create an island ambience to the place in less than 2 hours. Oh boy, that period of time could be defined as "crazy". Everyone could be seen running all over the place, searching for anything that could be useful for the dinner. At the eleventh hour, everything was hurriedly prepared, aside for a few sudden changes that we have to make to facilitate te dinner. Overall, I conclude that the dinner was a resounding success and despite all the hustle and bustle, it was certainly FUN! Thinking of all the fun i had earlier, i left TJC that night, tired but satisfied with the lessons learnt and memories shared with all... Labels: S.C.I.P. |
