Gap year
Well, i guess this post is mainly about one of my dream and aspiration.
Recently , i have read in the newspaper about a term called "Gap Year". Yeah, basically, it applies to those mainly in the US and UK, where college graduates (usually those of the age of 18), take a year off, literary, to travel around and out of their country. And i mean it, like just drop all the burdens they are holding and just travel around the world, free from troubles. Of course, this applies mainly for those who are well-off, but hey, who says that Singapore can't do the same thing. Man, sometimes i think that the transition for guys in Singapore is too rigid and stringent, from school, to NS, to Uni, to work and the when one finally can take a brek, they find out that they are well past 60. NO!!!!! I don't want this to happen to me. I want my freedom, i want to be able to explore the unknown realms of the world, from the deep corners of the ocean to the highest point of the earth; from the most remote villages in the world to the urban skyscrapers of US/Japan. In short, i want to travel. And i bet everyone else i know may have thought of just travelling. I know home is where the heart lies, but sometimes, it is necessary for one to set out beyond the safe boundaries of home, for one to really know where one's heart truely lies. All these talk about academic pursuits, job pursuits, even monetary pursuits, just seem like an endless pursuit, with the process pratically endless and the hunger for more pretty stressful and harmful. Yeah, that was sort of my dream when i was young: to be a globe trekker. Not those boring jobs of being a doctor or lawyer. Well, unless these jobs bring me around the world, i pretty much want a job that brings me around the world. maybe become a wine taster? haha, guess I'm dreaming again... Labels: gap year |
